Ultrasonic welding

In ultrasonic welding materials such as thermoplastic synthetics are welded together by means of mechanical vibration.

High voltage in a frequency range of generally 20-40kHz gets produced in a generator. In a converter piezo elements transform this alternating voltage into mechanical vibrations and transfer this energy to a special tool, known as a sonotrode.

The complete vibratory system, consisting as a minimum of the converter and the welding tool, vibrates within its own resonance.
